HEAVY DUTY Issue 82 September/October 2005HEAVY DUTY Issue 82 September/October 2005

Welcome to the September/October issue of HEAVY DUTY. This issue we have so much to show that we had to add extra pages - again - and this 128 page edition is officially our biggest ever!

To kick off we have full coverage of the new 2006 Harley-Davidson range, one of the most comprehensive model line-ups the Motor Company has ever released. There are a few surprises in there as well!

Our feature bike on the cover is the 'Conqueror', from East Coast Choppers in Sydney. We spied it at the Motorex Custom Show in Sydney and were blown away by the attention to detail and beautiful clean lines from the builder, Glenn Skinner. Even more impressive is the fact that Conqueror is his first full custom build!

For the technically minded, check out the supercharged V-Rod feature. AAC in Perth have bolted a Sprintex supercharger to a stock 'Rod and achieved over 145hp! Read how on page 52. As well, Guardem Engineering feature a raked out Deuce built by the proprietor, Col. And no prizes for guessing he's a Kiwi!

On top of the late model beasties, for a change of pace, is a 1923 Harley 8 Valve racer owned by Billy Macnamara. Billy is a legend in Australia for his restoration of antique and unusual H-Ds but this bike is one out of the box. It is the ONLY one in the world in this configuration, took 20 years to restore and word has it that Willie G is more than interested in getting it back to Milwaukee for the company museum! Check out page 68.

And our main feature bike this issue will rock your socks! Excalibur is a hand built uber chopper from GLH Custom Motorcycles. It runs a 145 cube S&S motor with nearly 180 horsepower and is a simply stunning example of creative bike building. It won Best of Show at the recent Motorex and we believe this bike could travel anywhere in the world and win. You can see it in all it's glory on page 61.

And of course there is a heap of more conventional rides including big power Twin Cams from Newcastle, Melbourne and Perth as well as an unusual Shovel Special built by Mike Lorenzon from Highway 31 in Brunswick VIC. And a tech article on good brakes and how they work. Plus Doc updates his CVO project bike, Orange Betty, and dispenses handy hinys for the world of Harleys.
